I am for death penalty. The crime rate gets higher and higher recently. And those murders had crueler means to kill people than ever. And in Taiwan, we have not practiced death penalty for a long time. Many people think it has lots of drawbacks. For example, death penalty makes the criminal do not have opportunity to become a normal person. Although los of human rights organizations are against it, I believe that death penalty has its meaning.
To begin with, death penalty could keep some of those who want to murder people from making their plan come true. That is to say, if a person knows that murdering another person will make himself suffer death penalty, he might not really kill the one he wanted to kill. In addition, death penalty can smooth those whose relatives were killed. And they do not need to revenge by themselves.
On the other hand, the other reasons that death penalty can not be abolished include that there is no other punishment can cover the meaning of death penalty. If a murderer just be sent to prison for twenty years, after his relief, he might kill another person, because the sentence is not too serious to stop him from doing murder. Furthermore, death penalty can not be replaced. There is no other thing can equal to death penalty.
The more murdering events there are, the more impartment death penalty is. Because it is a serious punishment, death penalty can avoid more crime. Put simply, I think the most impartment thing is that everyone should observe the law and we do not have to be worried about death penalty.
By the way, I found an article in BBC which is related to death penalty. http://www.bbc.co.uk/ethics/capitalpunishment/against_1.shtml
