I found an article in BBC website. It was about “Mother's fond memories of Queen star Freddie.” The following is several words that I found interesting and valuable to get their meanings.
1.Frontman
2.commemorative
3.pavement
4.bungalow
5.moisten
6.lingering
7.supper
8.initially
9.terraced
10.legacy
I used to search the words that I do not understand through www.yahoo.com.tw. After the second class at lab, it was surprised for me to find there are still lots of on-line dictionaries. The first time I used www.yahoo.com.tw in order to understand the meanings of those words. Yahoo dictionary was efficient to make myself understand Chinese equivalent. However, having fewer examples than others is its drawback. And after some trial finding, I found that http://vlc.polyu.edu.hk/default.htm was the most useful one for me. To begin with, it was user-friendly, because I could notice where I should click and what the next step was. In addition, it provided lots of information, especially English explanations, and included Chinese equivalent, English synonym, examples and so on. The most interesting one was that it provided games for users. And I tried to play a difficult synonyms game, then finding it was really complecated.
Furthermore, http://images.google.com/ was wonderful for searching some adorable pictures. For example, I typed “legacy”. Then it was amazing that there were many pictures of cars, but the meaning of legacy is that things passed to somebody by predecessors or from earlier events. By the way, it was strange that I could not find the word ,“initially”, at http://forbetterenglish.com/. And finally I found its meaning through virtual language centre.
After finishing homework, I learned how to use a lot of searching resources and get the result I want to find. It was such a special experience to find a word through eleven on-line dictionaries and resources. And the more times I tried to use them, the more efficiently that I could get the information I want. The most important thing was that I knew far more useful websites.

Did you notice that the pictures of cars were all the same model? Subaru is the make (manufacturer) and Legacy is the name of the model.
ReplyDelete"Initially" is not in GDEX because adverbs are not covered. This is something that ought to be rectified; I'll mention it to them!
